So it's been awhile since I've been in Oz, and things have changed. So I was wondering if anyone can recommend any new* "must do's" for vegans in Australia.

I'd prefer Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle, Perth ideas, but happy to hear about any other new things.

* where new is stuff that's opened or come onto the market in the past 2 years or so

Hi! In Newtown (Sydney), I believe there's a vegan bake sale planned for the market (opposite Newtown station) on 25 July - but get there fairly early, because last month they sold out by about midday. There's also an amazing vegan breakfast place called Naked Espresso; it's only open on weekends, and it shares premises with Basil Pizza on King St.

That's all I've got - I'll be watching with interest to see what others suggest.

Alas I'll still be in Perth for the bake sale. And I think you are the 4th person to suggest Basil Pizza and Naked Cafe... I'm definately checking them out!

Yeah, so we should definitely make a day (although we can't squeeze everything in in just one day) of it. Don't know if you've experienced it, but there's also Green Gourmet and Green Palace in Newtown. Badde Manors in Glebe. Peace Harmony near Wynyard. Mother Chu's near Town Hall. Mad Pizza in Newtown also does vegan pizza.

Cassie, Andrew, Nez and I (and perhaps some others) could have a dinner/lunch/breakfast somewhere with you. :)

We used to stop off at Green Gorment and the ice cream place in Newtown when heading back to Canberra!

Love to do a meet up, won'te be up that way until 4/5/6 August or so (zebrallama and I are road tripping) :)

The ice-cream place is Vegan's Choice, right next to Green Gourmet. They now have raw cake.
But alas, they got rid of the lotus seed ginger ice-cream. Every time I go there I ask if they have any, but they haven't for ages. :(

No the ice cream place I'm thinking of was a gelato place that had a good range of sorbettos and was down the road.

Oh! If it's who I think it is, I didn't know they had vegan options. I always walk past and peer in enviously. Never thought to actually check. Figured it was a lost cause. :p

They also sell pies on non-weekend days.
They and Basil also sell vegan pizz. Basil used to have 2 vegan options, but Charles has made up about 5 others (including one created by and named after yours truly).

The pies are like meat pies. I really like them. And it's awesome seeing vegans eating them. The looks on their faces! "...Are you SURE this has no meat in it!!!!??? I haven't had a pie in 5 years!". It's great.

I tried the...tempeh pizza, I think? A while back, anyway. It was OK, but I prefer veggies on pizza anyway. I didn't realise there were others, though - I must check them out!

Are the pies available at weekends, as well? I wanted to ask when I was there, but was having a shy day and they were busy, so I didn't bother.

Yeah, I like to have veggie pizzas too, but sometimes I feel like something that doesn't seem to be nutritious. :p

Yeah, the pies are available on weekends too. I've had one when others were having their brekkies. Again, it was one of those "but I don't feel like healthy food!" days.

Oh, I recognise that feeling. :P

Cheers - I really should've asked about the pies. Just one of those days. Oh, well, I intend to make it across to Newtown again on the 25th!

Aw, sorry you didn't get to try Naked Espresso. :( At least they're doing so well that they'll definitely be there for next time!

I doubt we'll get there, but I hope we do. I love Byron.
